![]() I’m drooling over the thought of using them for skies and in general because of the liftability. ![]() I have DS French Ultramarine as well as a Phthalo (red shade), but I’d love to add a cobalt to my palette because I think they are very pretty. What’s the difference functionally between something like Indigo and a lot of the Neutral Tints (which often run violet)? What are you using them for? And why them instead of a dark blue like Ult Blue? I find the depths of large bodies of water are usually a browner, yellower green, and that the highlights are paler and bluer. I’ve used it for certain types of bodies of water as well, but that’s really very rare. How does it mix with granulating colors? Do others have issue with it, besides the fact that its such a powerful mixer?Īs for pigments like Cobalt Teal and Cobalt Turquoise (I found that they worked similarly)- they’re primary use for me is to make a broad range of relatively vibrant, yet natural greens. I’ve been resistant to using Pthalos in general for a long time, but in limited use, it seems for helpful. I’ve just never found a consistent use for Prussian Blue that wasn’t just as well satisfied (or better satisfied) with Ultramarine Blue. This just doesn’t seem as useful as the shift from the more violet blues of Ultramarine and the warmer, orange tones of Burnt Sienna- particularly for landscapes. ![]() But I’ve found that the grey shifts between the greener blue and the duller red, in terms of the range of possible mixes. It’s funny- I’ve used Prussian Blue before, particularly when mixed with a red (like Indian Red) for greys. For that, I can his keep a tube in my backpack for the occasional use. Occasionally, I want a daub of middle blue for a shirt or sign, but that’s about what I relegate it to. How do people use those colors instead?Ĭobalt Blue just doesn’t seem different enough from other blues to be of value- it’s not dark like Ultramarine Blue, it’s not pale and hyper granulating like Cerulran Blue, it’s not a great green mixer like Cobalt Turquoise, it’s not a powerful non-granulating mixer like Prussian or Pthalo Blue. So, I’ve considered removing it from my palette, and getting perhaps a different blue on my palette instead- perhaps a Pthalo or Prussian. But Cobalt? Not sure why I have it there…. I like to mix Cobalt Turquiose with various yellows to make a variety of natural greens. I’ve even used Pthalo Blue for skies, but not really Cobalt Blue- it just seems so similar to UB I skip right over to it instead. Occasionally, if I want something with more violet, I use a very pale wash of Ult Blue instead- Cobalt just doesn’t seem violet enough. I use Ceruean blue for my skies pretty often, as I like the cool pale, granulating nature of it. Sometimes, I use Cobalt Blue as a cooling off tool, if my shadows get too purpley-brown, but just a touch of it. I go through Ult Blue like nobody’s business, as I use it as the primary darkening blue agent for shadows, etc. Do others here use it? And if so, how? And why use it, instead of another blue? If you don’t use it, what Blues do you use instead? As such, I’ve been pondering removing it, but it’s considered such an “essential” by many well known painters that I’ve paused a bit. 3.I have Cobalt Blue on my palette but don’t really use it much. ** = 25-100 years lightfast under museum conditions. *** = at least 100years lightfast under museum conditions. Are piezo pickups good12/15/2023 ![]() With the BB-600 Baritone, we went with the Graph Tech ghost Loaded ResoMax saddles, which serve a similar function. One really nice thing about piezo pickups in regard to overall sound: you won’t have to worry about picking up electrical hum because there are no magnets involved.įor the EC-1000 Piezo, we chose the Fishman Powerbridge, a highly-advanced piezo system that is voiced specifically to add acoustic-type tones to your electric guitar. Often, the active circuitry of a piezo pickup system needs to include some kind of compression, because you’ll find that a piezo behaves much differently than a magnetic pickup in regard to how loud or quite it is versus how hard or soft your playing style is. While they may not automatically turn your electric into an acoustic guitar tone-wise, they indeed represent the actual acoustic energy from your electric guitar.Īnother thing to be aware of is the dynamic response of piezo pickups. Piezo pickups are often brighter and less warm than magnetic pickups, allowing for a high degree of string articulation and clarity in your tone. This can be thought of as being more akin to that of an acoustic guitar tone in many ways compared to the tone of magnetic pickups. What is being picked up with a piezo is the sound of the strings and the vibrations caused by the resonance of the wood and the hardware… in other words, the actual sound of the guitar. ![]() It’s said that piezo pickups on an electric guitar produce a more acoustic-like tone, but that’s not exactly accurate. If none of the information above made you do anything but yawn, that’s okay, because the real thing you came here to learn is what piezo pickups sound like. The more important thing to know as a musician is what to expect from them tone-wise. Piezo-electric pickups, to use their proper name, are actually an older technology than that of magnetic pickups. They typically use a type of compressed crystal to receive the vibrations (we know it sounds like crazy magical voodoo talk, but trust us, it’s true), and the signal gets translated and preamplified before being sent to the guitar’s output. Instead of the magnetic field as described above, the piezo pickup actually measures the pressure of the string/instrument vibrations to create the electrical current. The EC-1000 Piezo (top) and the BB-600 Baritone (bottom) are two ESP LTD models that include both piezo and magnetic pickups. That’s why they’ve typically been used as pickups for acoustic instruments, like nylon-string guitars that wouldn’t work with a magnetic pickup. The reason is simple: piezo pickups work by picking up the actual vibrations of the string and the instrument. Unlike magnetic pickups, which are easily noticed under the strings between the bridge and the neck, piezo pickups in an electric guitar are usually located inside the bridge itself. First, you don’t even see them on the guitar. They translate acoustic energy into small electrical signals that you can then amplify.Ī piezo pickup is very different. This is a similar idea in regard to how most microphones work, which is why pickups and mics are both called transducers. The field created by the magnet and coil translates the vibration into electrical signals. Hit a string on the electric guitar and the string vibrates. The pickup has a magnet or series of magnets that are wrapped in wire coil. Whether active (like many from EMG) or passive (like most made by Seymour Duncan), magnetic pickups work on the same principle. Most pickups on electric guitars are magnetic pickups. We’re not going to get into very much of the scientific discussion behind piezo (pronounced “pee-YAY-zoh”) pickups, but you will at least want to know a basic idea of what they are and how they’re different from the pickups you already know and love. With the release of some of our recent new models like the LTD EC-1000 Piezo and the LTD Signature Series guitar for Ben Burnley of Breaking Benjamin, the BB-600 Baritone, we’ve had a number of people let us know that they’d like to learn more about what a piezo pickup is and how it works. Vpl vw325es12/14/2023 While calibration will improve the picture quality, the VW325ES delivered an accurate, natural-looking picture right out-of-the-box. It’s also a bit brighter, at 1,800 lumens, good news for those who like to keep the lights on while they’re watching. As expected, when it comes to HD and 4K SDR content, the Sony VW325ES was outstanding. One handy added feature is its Picture Position Memory, which lets you save up to 5 screen formats to switch quickly between aspect ratios and aligment settings for different types of content. Like the 325ES it needs a lot of space, but does have a wide zoom and lens shift to fine-tune the placement during installation. The Sony VPL-VW715ES uses a similar motorized standard-throw lens to the model above. It also utilizes Dynamic Tone Mapping, further optimizing the color scene by scene for the most realistic and immersive viewing experience. It has a high dynamic contrast, paired with HRD10 and HLG compatibility to ensure both the accuracy and the realism of your content. Where the VPL-VW715ES outperforms the 325ES is its color and contrast. You’ll also get the same Reality Creation upscaling to bring a new level of detail to your favorite shows and movies. ![]() It also uses an SXRD panel with an X1 processor and aspherical lens, resulting in a crisp, detailed picture (that stays sharp during action scenes thanks to Motionflow). The Sony VPL-VW715ES has a lot in common with the VPL-VW325ES. As long as you have a suitable space, though, it’s relatively flexible during the installation, with a wide 2.06x zoom and 2D lens shift (+/-31% horizontal and +/-85% vertical). It’s also best in a completely dark space, and may lose contrast and saturation in even moderate ambient light. You’ll need a lot of space for it, for one thing-around 13-14 feet for a 100-inch screen. Now, the Sony VPL-VW315ES is made for use in dedicated home theaters, and that does limit its versatility. The VPL-VW325ES also has full support for 3D content and is compatible with IMAX Enhanced. Motionflow technology maintains that sharp detail even during fast action sequences, while purists can use True Theater mode to maintain the original frame rate of movies. Paired with this is a Dynamic HDR enhancer that brings out the full detail of shadowy scenes and ensures life-like, nuanced colors across the picture. This means you’ll see full HD content at nearly 4K resolution, and 4K content is even crisper than on other displays. Its Super-Resolution Reality Creation technology analyzes the content pixel by pixel to enhance its sharpness and reduce noise. The advanced Silicon X-tal Reflective Display, large-diameter aspherical lens, and X1 processor of the Sony VPL-VW325ES give it a phenomenal picture quality. Considering the improvements with the 715ES are subtle, this makes the 325ES the better overall value. The list price of the VW715ES is about twice that, though, so it’s affordable in comparison. The Sony VPL-VW325ES is hardly cheap, at an MSRP of around $5,000. However, the Sony VPL-VW715ES is a bit brighter (1,800 lumens, compared to the 1,500 of the VW325ES), giving viewers more leeway to leave the lights on while they’re watching.īrighter projector: Sony VPL-VW715ES Value Higher picture quality: Sony VPL-VW715ES Brightnessīoth of these projectors are best used in rooms with low ambient light. Along with this, memory slots for your picture settings make it fast and easy to optimize the image settings to what you’re watching. It has enhanced color and contrast, including HDR tone mapping and dynamic contrast adjustment. The Sony VPL-VW715ES takes this high picture quality a step further. Whatever you like to watch, it’ll look phenomenal played through this projector. It goes beyond standard 4K resolution, with anti-blur technology and support for formats like IMAX and 3D. The Sony VPL-VW325ES blows most projectors out of the water when it comes to image quality. AuthorWrite something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview. ArchivesCategories |
